DroneSeed, a Seattle startup utilizing know-how to assist restore forests scorched by wildfire, introduced Tuesday that it’s altering its title to Mast Reforestation and has acquired two seed corporations.

The corporate is taking up Cal Forest Nurseries, a significant provider of tree seed and seedlings for California, in addition to seed provider and processor Siskiyou Seed. Mast is now the most important seed provider within the western U.S. and claims to be the nation’s solely vertically built-in forestry firm.

DroneSeed launched in 2016. Its providers deploy custom-built drones measuring 8 ft in diameter that may carry 55 kilos of tree seeds, which is sufficient to reseed about one-quarter of the taking part in floor of a soccer area. The corporate has dispersed seeds throughout 1000’s of acres since 2019.

In 2021, the startup bought Silvaseed, a 130-year-old Western Washington firm that’s the biggest non-public seed provider west of Colorado. Siskiyou Seed, an Oregon-based enterprise, enhances the providers offered by Silvaseed, in response to Mast.

The corporate has raised $43.37 million in investments, in response to PitchBook.

“The addition of Cal Forest will assist us additional perform our mission of creating reforestation scalable,” stated Grant Canary, Mast founder and CEO, in a press release.
