After testing earlier this 12 months, Google is now broadly rolling out a Materials 3 redesign of Gmail on iPhone and iPad.

Whereas the design language is broadly out there in Google’s Android and net apps, iOS adoption has been a lot slower.

In Gmail, it begins with a pill-shaped search bar changing the rounded rectangle. The underside bar, when you’ve got the built-in Google Chat and/or Meet expertise enabled, identifies your present tab with one other capsule as a substitute of highlighting the icon.

The “Compose” button is now a rounded rectangle. Blue is used because the accent colour all through the appliance, with crimson being largely retired.

Gmail’s navigation drawer along with your folders and labels is unchanged. Within the message view, one tweak sees the three-dot overflow icon go horizontal.

This “refreshed feel and look” is supposed to match the Android and net expertise. We’re seeing this Materials 3 redesign rolled out with model 6.0.250413 of Gmail for iPhone and iPad. Total, it’s a fairly easy modernization.

On iOS, Materials 3 is on the market in Google Chat, Residence, Maps, Meet, Photographs, and Search.

In the meantime, Google Calendar, which is an app utilizing the earlier design language, for iOS is getting the flexibility to “create and modify birthday occasions.” As soon as out there, creating a brand new occasion reveals “Birthday” as an choice alongside “Occasion” and “Process.” This isn’t but broadly rolled out.
